Java Applet Certs Expiration Date

Just a question… Wouldn’t it be easier on all of us if they expire in June or July? I mean, August 23, 2010 is probably going to be as much of a problem as August 23, 2008 is now…

I don’t think there is ever a good time to set certificates to expire. What, in my view, is more important is that Blackboard does not wait until just before they are due to expire to provide new ones. I would like to see every major release (service pack) of their product to contain certificates which have a life of at least 6 months, and for new certificates for older releases to be issued at least 3 months before the expiry date.
What are the chances of this happening?

  2. True enough, Stephen, but still, the first (plus or minus one) week of school has to be the least good time, with the possible exception of “five minutes ago”.

  3. You’ve seen today’s bulletin, right? The one that says the certificates will actually expire on August 24th? At 12:13 am, to be precise? Not “at the end of August”?
And did the phrase “What a bunch of maroons!” enter your mind?

  4. We setup a nifty new automated process for these in the future. I promise it won’t happen again.
Just in case, I set a calendar reminder of the expiratin date ;-).
