CrossList Implementation in Banner/Vista4 Environments

I just imported the SCT Banner 7.4 ICGORLDI extract into our Bb Vista 4.2.3 environment. We label our sections with a partner code for the CMS and extract and import so labeled sections.

Bb Vista enterpriseImport.log records a STUCK thread for each xlist imported. And the import of 17 mg of group records took 9 hours!

Why a STUCK thread? I should be more clear. TWO stuck threads.

1. Because the XLIST parent section being created has to be renamed. “Cross Listed Section Group” becomes “Cross Listed Section Group ####” using the next available number.

2. The ‘term’ assignment, new to Vista 4, doesn’t extend to crosslisted groups. I can’t figure out why they might have designed this way…

Here’s what this looks like in ones enterpriseImport.log:

<log4j:event logger=”enterpriseimport” timestamp=”1205440151636″ time=”Thu Mar 13 16:29:11 EDT 2008″ level=”WARN” thread=”[STUCK] ExecuteThread: ’10’ for queue: ‘weblogic.kernel.Default (self-tuning)'” schema=”LMS”>

<log4j:NDC><![CDATA[WebCT-1205434081967]]></log4j:NDC>

Really… Crosslists, on several fronts, could be so much more

One response to “CrossList Implementation in Banner/Vista4 Environments

  1. We ran into the renaming thing early in 2007. Somewhere between 1200 and 1500 those particular objects were taking up to 24 hours to complete the import for about 100. We recommended to the school they modify Banner to give each Cross-Listed Parent Course a unique name.
    1) It would help make imports faster.
    2) It helps admin users determine which section is which.
